Out and about

Montagrier has its own post-office, local store, small art gallery, café and popular auberge that serves lunch and dinner either indoors or al fresco on a large vine-covered terrace. Alongside the village green, a stunning avenue of lime trees only a minute's walk from the house leads to a perfect Roman church with spectacular elevated views over the River Dronne valley. Villagers on balmy evenings sometimes play boules along this avenue which is fun to watch, or try for yourself - there are several sets of boules at the house.

Colourful and bustling markets in nearby towns of Tocane-Saint-Apre, Riberac and Lisle offer the region's abundance of fruit and vegetables, home-made cheeses, pates and preserved meats. They are renowned in the Dordogne and are a joyful occasion unto themselves. In Summer, peaches, cherries, nectarines, apricots, strawberries are just a few of the many fruits to choose from - they are grown in the region and as with the vegetables, are all so fresh. If you enjoy cooking the choice and quality of fresh produce is second to none.
